Systems
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist is responsible for the planning, design, implementation and management of a corporate land and infrastructure information management system. The dissemination of information to others in the community, either within the City of Whitehorse, as residence or employees, and to those outside the City, is also an important goal.

If you just get a empty map window on start up click on the java icon in the lower left corner to switch to no-java mode. To use java mode you'll have to either download the plugin or enable it, or follow the instructions from this website (no guarantees, or responsibility by the City for any information presented or used) .
FireFox users: Tools > Options > Web Features
Features of the Map page:
- search for a street – zoom out to entire city first, select the street from the list at the bottom of the map – click Search
- search for a house number on a street – zoom out to entire city first, select the street and fill in the house number – click Search

Wild life sightings – check the box beside “Wildlife
Sightings” – click “Redraw Map”, then use the
icon to draw a box around the animal’s
picture for details, then scroll down)

Bus schedules – use the
icon to draw a box around one of the bus
symbols – these are the “timed stops” – other stops (diamonds) on the routes do
not have times
- Use Quick View drop down to goto any subdivision quickly – select the subdivision from the list
- 1 meter Ortho photos of the entire city ( from August,2001) - check the box beside the Ortho Photo (1 is at the top, 4 is at the bottom) then click “Redraw Map”
- Satellite image of the centre of the city ( from Sept 2003) – check the “Color Satellite Image” and then “Redraw Map”

Lot information - use the
icon to draw a box around a lot and more
information on the lot will be displayed near the bottom of the page
- Some Lake and river names are available if you zoom in closely to it (so that the “Scale” is less than 10000)
- Printable Image – will give a new web page with an image suitable for printing
Movement:

use the
icon to zoom in close to a location (draw a box
in java mode) -- Notice that zooming in
will show more details as you get closer (more information is displayed)

use the
icon to zoom out from the centre of the map

use the
icon to recentre on the point clicked
- use the green arrows at the corners and on the sides to move in that direction
- click on the “Keymap” to quickly move to any point
